A very interesting article and an interesting insight into the nuances of language. Being the recipient of violence isn't the same as being the victim of violence - we'd never say that the loser of a boxing match was a victim of violence.

The same is true of survivor. Presumably anyone can be a survivor of any experience. Today I'm a survivor of eating my lunch. There was a remote chance I'd choke. I think we do need to be careful about the words that we use and the psychological implications of using them. This is particularly true in the current climate when one can label themselves as the 'victim' of something or a 'survivor of' and can utilise the words in a self reinforcing way.

I don't know what the answer is, I just know that I'm on team Coleman for this one. Words matter. And we should constantly question the validity of the words we use. Great article, very enjoyable :o)
