Again… very enjoyable. I am one of those pesky progressives but am firmly of the opinion that progress is a balancing act of conflicting temperaments - any time a society moves out of balance it either ceases to innovate (hello Roman Empire) or it innovates itself towards a chaos it cannot handle (hello 20th Century Russia).

The democratic trick, and the one both conservatives and liberals should endeavour to both understand and treat with respect… is the mechanism for dialogue. It may look like circular voting patterns. It may be undoing what the previous Government did, it may even be rowdy and ill-tempered at times…. But it works, and we throw it away at our peril. :o)
