Agreed. This is a good analogy. I think the current discourse has got far too focussed on how dangerous cars are - rather than teaching people basic road safety. I also think road-safety should be taught by people who have been run over and people who haven't. Kids that are well adjusted in their views on cars, roads and their own abilities will be fine.... it's not a good thing to retrospectively allow kids who got hit by cars (especially if they were jay walking) to blame the drivers under every circumstance. It's not good either to create a generation of kids so terrified or angry at drivers they refuse to cross roads - they'll never get anywhere. It's a matter of balance.
