Although I am a Penguin, I'm pretty good with my money. I have a human brother and a human sister. He is good with money, but bad at spending it. She is terrible with money but very good at spending it. It is, however, her husband who is spectacularly bad with money. I'm not sure there was much budgeting training going on in schools - what I will say is that the better the parents are with money, the better the kids (of both sexes generally turn out to be). We didn't have a lot of money when we were growing up, so me , my brother (and my sister to some extent) are quite cautious with our money. I have friends whose parents are very wealthy and who invest who teach their children the value of investing. I recently had lunch with a friend who is excellent with money, whose Dad is a self-made millionaire and who has had her own stock portfolio since she was thirteen. I couldn't even imagine my parents being able to do anything like that. Perhaps education is the answer - but I think perhaps that should start at home. Good food for thoughts in this article - thanks for writing. :o)
