And for those of us working at the sharp end of society (secure services/prison) - the further question is what benefits become available if I identify as autistic?

There are people I work with who are autistic and there are people I work with who are sociopathic - the two things are not the same. If committing a violent crime can be blamed on 'autistic meltdown' (and that does happen) then what does that do to the public perception of autism more generally? I have concerns that 'neurodivergence' is opening a Pandora's box of wider social problems.
