As always people can presume whatever they wish about my identity. It ranges from a cis-white guy from rural Texas who enjoys guns and beating his wife, to a progressive mixed-race lesbian who believes in race wars. In my experience people see what they want to see and whatever is most expedient for the argument they're making. There's an article pinned to my profile about being a Penguin which goes into the reasons why I'm a Penguin and that article still stands.
I also agree, I don't take the middle ground on all issues because I'm politically left and politically liberal, however I do tend to write the middle ground though - and I think I have sound reasons for doing so as a blogger. There aren't many places where Conservatives and trans-readers will come and share space together. The left loves an echo chamber - and one of my concerns about young trans-kids isn't necessarily that just Conservatives are bad for them, it's that other trans-folk are also bad for them by generating anxiety about the world that isn't entirely warranted.
If you read through these comments, you might find views you disagree with - but so do the Conservatives. If the trans-discussions are going to move forward and people are going to move from their (wrong) assumption that trans-people are inferior, or trans-people aren't people - then society has to find a place where the issues can be discussed calmly. That place has to be cultivated by a strict adherence to fair discussion and for everyone to see their views represented in one form or another. Online, everyone tends to read what they like to read (it's why I write in a humorous tone) so even if they disagree they at least feel they've been entertained.
It is very easy to see bigotry in the other but not as easy to see bigotry on your own side. In the meantime here's the best example I can think of about how the liberal position and the faux-liberal progressive position is causing harm to the Trans community.
