Because those people pushing for fairness and equality of opportunity on a social level should practice what they preach on a personal level. It's nothing to do with the White House as you've said, but nepotism is one of the key hallmarks of corruption. They CAN employ who they like but SHOULD they employ who they like... and more importantly, if they do employ who they like rather giving opportunities to under-represetented minorities or struggling acts, should the show then preach messages of inclusion and tolerance. As I said, I loved the show, but I find the paradox it poses around inclusivity to be somewhat disingenuous.
