But generally that's not what it's about, it's about the good feeling people get from mob justice and virtue signalling. I have no stats to back this up, but I imagine that the venn diagram between 'Cancel Culture Enthusiasts' and 'People who write letters for Amnesty International' is small.

Cancel Culture is about petty feelings of revenge and schadenfreude.... and it's being used as a blunt instrument by both the left and the right with the sort of macabre cruelty that would make Stalin soil himself with happiness. If you feel powerless in your life, boycottinig Lea Michelle and Ellen doesn't make a modicum of difference, it just reveals your basic childish tantrum approach to complex social issues.
