But leaving an abusive relationship requires that there is a viable and valid alternative. You have posited that there's an abusive relationship between the state and the demos - but you haven't explained exactly what you'd replace it with.

Consider the Russian peasants, they were in a terribly abusive relationship with their monarch and state. Someone offered them a way out in 1917, they were supportive, loving, caring and entirely on the side of the peasants. But that new relationship turned out to be infinitely more controlling and abusive than the last. What are you offering outside of the safety of liberal democracy? What is the relationship you want

Whilst I agree with some of what you say - I'm not sure the FKA Twigs example is a fair analogy. The alternative to Shia Laboeuf isn't the absence of Shia Laboeuf, it's a different relationship that might be infinitely worse. Ironically, the thing that allowed her to exit the abusive relationship with him was changes in laws and guidance around domestic violence, enacted by successive democratically elected governments. It's not a perfect system, but it's not as bad as some of the alternatives.
