Couldn't agree more.... would highly recommend becoming a penguin as well. Since embracing my penguinity and leaving my old life behind, I have been much more able to get people to concentrate on what I am saying, not necessarily who I am to say it. Most of my online discussions now involve people tiptoeing round whatever imagined identity they have projected onto me. That's definitely a THEM problem.
There are plenty of debates worth having online, but they can only really happen outside of the yoke of identity poltiics and the multitudinous flavours of perceieved oppression. Often when debating I do think 'where's the win' - it's been a useful strategy. Some people are beyond the capacity for reasonable and structured exchange of ideas.
