Couldn't agree more... but this is probably the last hurrah of the centrist movement. Biden was the safe choice - not the first choice. He's the consensus of the various fractions of the Democrat party.

If Biden is smart (and I'm not sure he is) then he'll form a centrist party. One that rejects both the extreme identity politics of the far left democrats and requires centre-ground Republicans to ditch the far right Trumpism. Otherwise the US is going to oscilate between demagogues on both sides in a two party slug-fight. People will emerge from the shadows of the right and left who will make Trump look like a bit of a harmless buffer.

The failure of moderate Republicans and Democrats to break their respective party whips and find common ground will kill American democracy. The insistence that the other side is 'wrong about everything' is what the echo-chambers promote. It simply isn't true. There are good points on both sides of the political divide.
