Dave is one of those readers that cuts straight to the point. I love it. I think he's onto something I'm trying to articulate - because it is a vague catch-all in some respects, it can be easily co-opted into meaning something other than what it means. As someone who works in mental health and has worked with young people, I'm seeing a lot of 'non-binary' emerge when I think there are other issues at play - it can serve as a valid distraction, lots of emphasis on pronouns and control when more searching questions and more selective psychological attention should be paid to deeper matters.

I don't think Dave is being dismissive in his approach, I think he genuinely thinks (as many people do) that it doesn't matter all that much and we can all rub along together vaguely tolerating each other - which is a position I'm happy with.... broadly speaking. I just don't think it's a position that's going to last much longer between NB, Trans-advocates and those of us in mental health.

Only time will tell. :o)
