Depp didn't need to prove she'd ruined his career, he needed to prove she'd caused him damages. That was covered in the trial and his removal from Fantastic Beasts and the final installment of the POOC was evidentially enough to sway the jury to award damages.
Depp was condemned in the court of public opinion, that was what had ruined his career... a large part of that judgment stemmed from an TRO and then a subsequent op-ed. He sued for defamation and requested she prove what she wrote was substantially true. She failed to do this.
It was an easy case for her to win, legally speaking. All she had to do was provide ONE piece of incontrovertible evidence he'd hit her, or bring in a witness who was credible enough to support her story. She failed to do that. What came out as a result of the legal strategy she employed was to her detriment, because it became obvious (to the jury and to those people watching at home) that she'd a) highly exaggerated her claims b) lied about certain things on some occasions and c) had sold her initial story.
The reason Depp wanted it televised IMO was to give people an accurate insight into what their marriage was like - and her behaviour was concordant with people I've met with BPD. The inability to accept responsibility, the escalating narrative, the quick flashes of superficial emotionality. Lots of words not a lot of depth.
Do I think she deserves what is happening across social media? Absolutely not. Nobody deserves having their public image trashed as a super-villain of epic proportions. She's being treated very poorly and deserves some sympathy and some really urgent therapeutic input (ideally DBT). But we can't overturn the results of a fair trial just because we want to discard all the evidence of her abuse - and to do so would not be in her best interests either.
My view is here if you're interested.
