Don’t get me wrong, I think Braverman is reprehensible, I think she’s divisive and awful and I think the sooner she’s removed from a position of power the better. That has nothing to do with her skin colour and everything to do with her upbringing and attitudes.
But I did also work in child protection for a long time. I did train (mostly white) social workers who were terrified to have conversations or act for fear of losing their job for being racist. The SCR for Kyra Ishaq highlights the fear an abuser was able to generate using the complaints process and the R word. That’s why it’s vital we don’t confuse matters on this issues.
There is a lot of work that needs to be done between communities, a lot more social blending and a lot of work around assimilation. How can the U.K. help bridge the gulf between a liberal democratic state which is largely secular - and communities which are often religious and conservative… and what unique challenges face second generation or third generation children in these communities.
I don’t have the answer, looking at the question isn’t racist, and Suella Braverman’s brand of thundercunt isn’t helping.
