Don't worry, you can still like all my comments. When I say 'socialisim is the answer' - I don't mean in the Che Guevara and let's all wear the same etc. I mean using a liberal democractic process to enact general economic catch alls like the NHS, a basic minimum wage (rather than a tip economy) and more protections for workers.

I'm always heartened by the Dan Price story - and how all his staff volunteered to take a pay cut during the pandemic. I don't believe that everyone is inherently selfish, but I do believe a lot of people are stressed and a minority of people will socially loaf. I don't think you should punish everyone for the sins of the few, which is what an adherence to pure capitalism does. There are people who work exceptionally hard and who are never free from worry. Often their lack of time, their moods, their interactions with others will be the root cause of other societal ills which might be more expensive to solve in the long run.

Free those people from the crushing experience of their day to day life (by careful reform of the tax and spend system) and I think society's ills may drop away. It will take a strong kick to the American psyche to allow that to happen, but socialism (not the omg, communisim by the backdoor) form - enacted through gently progressive politics is the way to ensure that the US democratic experiment survives. Not sure any President will be able to get it through such a bipartisan system. America is deadlocked.
