Enter every competition you can find (agents often bypass reading endless unsolicited submissions by getting hold of the finalists/winners). Focus on theatre first, smaller pool of competition and bigger chance of getting your work seen. Short films if that’s more your bag. I’m in the UK, so I’m not sure if it’s different elsewhere in the world.

Most important of all. Read. I always have at least two books on the go, and do a two hour walk every evening with a podcast or an audiobook. The more you surround yourself with stories, the more intuitive it becomes to write them — you’ll start to think in story patterns. Second thing, make time for writing in your life, I try and do at least three hours every day — sometimes the following day I’ll delete everything I’ve written the day before, but if you don’t get into the discipline of writing every day, you’ll end up with a lot of unfinished projects. I tend to write about three separate scripts at any one time — because it’s good to get a bit of space.

Oh and write down those creative thoughts you have. You’ll be convinced you’ll remember them. You won’t. That’s it. Enjoy the ride :o)
