Essentially yes, the problem with that is that human beings skew heavily towards their own political bias and in online groups like this, they skew heavily left and liberal (sometimes faux liberal) - there isn't much diversity of thought here. Diversity of writing yes, diversity of thought... no. That doesn't make it a marketplace of ideas, it makes it a marketplace of idea, singular. Or perhaps it makes it an indoor market of ideas where everything outside of a lefty-liberal bubble gets rained on.
I am not right wing by any stretch of the imagination, I am a contrarian by nature because I want to see how well people have thought through their ideas - this gets me blocked for being right wing. I don't think I've really seen an erudite defence of the economic or social right wing on here - and the few right of centre writers I've read are rarely promoted in any meaningful way and slammed in the comments almost instantly.
If I'm the voice of the right - and I'm a British socialist who doesn't mind arguing the toss, then the platform can't be helped by the boost nomination pilot.
