Everybody agrees with me once in a while, it’s one of the perks and pitfalls of being a free thinking centre ground liberal who doesn’t mind debating. I wrote this article a while ago, but the entrenching of the views of both factions has (predictably) concluded. There is no good faith debate anymore and there is no wider philosophical thought process.

I don’t really have a problem with separating the art from the artist - our modern tendency to enforce our own biases on people from a different era is a short term cathartic win at long term cost. Tastes change, the world moves on and weaponising offence at past events is, in most cases, divisive and fruitless.

Where the Rowling debates go next I don’t know. The vitriol on both sides is terrifying. As I’ve written a few times in various articles, the most vociferous trans-activists do more harm than good to their own community, and people must be careful which ideological groups they join.

That cuts both ways. The reason i disagree with everyone is because I try not to take an ideological position on anything if I can help it. I’d rather show my working and stick to individuality as a key way of engaging with the world. With big groups comes a lack of responsibility and much collective stupidity.

Am glad we agreed on this one - but do feel free to hold me accountable when you disagree. I don’t bite/peck - not hard at least… and debate is better than either silent acquiescence or bottled up rage and the block button. :o)
