Excellent article - and I'm always despairing about the left. The recent rise of Corbynism and identity poltiics in particular has ignited the somewhat ideological self immolation of the left.

The central part of the labour party can't continue to appeal to working class people who vote in their own interests - and faux-liberals who want to police the world into a new utopia. It's picking neither side and losing both.

I've argued before that identity politics is a predominantly right wing movement that seriously undermines a genuine push for a more equitable society. Everyone loses when we place all our focus on the divisions between people.

I wrote this for my US readers https://medium.com/lucid-nightmare/what-we-all-lose-when-society-plays-identity-politics-397dcb896d5b - but the same pattern is playing out in the UK too.
