Great article. I think the court got it right but there’s a high level of backlash against the verdict from some quarters. Like you I watched most of the trial and I felt the jury wasn’t going to be moved by her testimony (and they weren’t).
On the balance of probabilities I felt the jury overreached, it’s very likely (to my mind) that they had at least one physical fight - which means the statement should stand. But the extent to which Heard exaggerated and failed to provide evidence meant the jury threw out all her testimony.
Her hyperbole sunk her own case. Heavy focus on one incident of mutual fighting and arguing the sexual abuse was not a reference to JD would likely have given her the win. Poor legal strategy from the outset.
