Great article, great point. You should’ve stuck to your own advice though. Nobody on Twitter cares what you actually meant, they’re only responding to what they think you meant. That’s how outrage works, and why I’m no longer on Twitter. It’s a whirlwind comprised of idiots – some of whom have PhDs.

Studying anything for 7–12 years has no impact on your maturity, and in some cases has the opposite effect – academia can be a protective bubble allowing people to bypass growing up and stay at the precocious teen stage for life.
