Hahahaha. We have a very similar philosophy on this one. The SOP and I have a simple question - are we still making each other happier together than we would be apart? It's one I apply to my friendships too. People have to retain a net-positive in my life to remain in my life. That doesn't account for frequency.... you can interact infrequently and be a net benefit in your own way, or you can interact all the time and be a net benefit. What you can't be is an occasional nuisance or an every day bother. I'm fairly utilitarian and have applied this approach to friendships and dating for some time (with one very notable fuck up).
