Having conceded checkmate, let me see if I can argue my way out of it. Suppose a pregnant woman changed her mind in the final week of her pregnancy and decided it was a bad idea to bring a baby into the world - could she then insist on a very late abortion on those grounds alone? Would she be morally obliged to consider the life of the unborn child? If she firmly believes it would be a bad thing for her and the baby and has sound reasoning, is there any reason why such an abortion shouldn't be a) permitted and b) encouraged. If so, should she be allowed to instruct doctors to euthanise the baby immediately after childbirth if the umbilical cord is still attached? If not, why not?
