Historically it was for gentlemen and their sons - and there are certain benefits that come with going to a private school, but the UK does have a comprehensive education system and a requirement for all children to be educated to a reasonable standard. That comprehensive entire population education is what should be rolled out rather than the gentleman elite model. :o)
