How about everyone just stays in their lane? The vast majority of people jumping in and making either pro-or-negative comments about someone’s weight loss or weight gain are women — why not take responsibility for that as part of this publication’s ongoing battle with the blistering shitshow that is the patriarchy?

Women socialising each other to conform to arbitrary beauty standards or throw off the shackles of conforming in an equally self righteous way is all part of the fun.

Whether or not Adele is fat or thin, healthy or unhealthy, going to die of, or not die of diabetes isn’t really anyone’s business. Why should anyone, apart from her and her close friends/family care about it in any meaningful capacity. Why does she need to become the poster celebrity for weightloss or weight gain? She can sing. I like that. How about we leave it there?

You, like every other journalist and writer on this topic, has profited from the debate. Trading off a private matter as though the debate itself has legitimacy. It doesn’t. You’re currently sitting on an applauding audience and a small stipend for your opinion on Adele and the validity of other people’s opinion of Adele.

In short you’re perpetuating and adding to an issue you’re pretending to be concerned about and committed to solve. Welcome to the banality of identity politics.
