I agree - and it's a failure of the American left to make a decent economic argument for change. There's been a conflation of middle class identity arguments with good old fashioned economic socialism for the poor. The identity arguments and the speed of decisions stemming from them have seen the right mobilise the economic arguments - that, in part, was what Trump was all about.
