I agree with 100% of this.... apart from the premise that questioning racism is racist. Anything that reduces the amount of curiosity and investigation in a society is not a progressive move.

White people are not the victims either. You misunderstand my position. The victims of a reductive society are vulnerable people. This includes BIPOC and on occasion working class white people. Diverting attention away from issues like poverty, police reform and neighbourhood integration to discuss whether someone is thinking Bridgerton is racist or not doesn't serve anyone.

We can spend hours talking about the subjective racist experience of an individual around Bridgerton, or Lovecraft Country, or the Soul (all articles I've seen on Medium) but it doesn't solve any of the problems. In many cases, saying such things is widely popular (and lucrative on Medium) but doesn't solve anything.

I've argued with Marley K many times about this. I think the solution to a lot of problems is found in socialism. Identity politics is an inherently right wing model that prioritises niche interest groups above others in a competative hierarchy. I would argue that identity politics is making things worse, not better, for BIPOC. I wrote my thoughts on the matter here. https://medium.com/lucid-nightmare/what-we-all-lose-when-society-plays-identity-politics-397dcb896d5b
