I agree. Words can have the power to hurt us outside of our conscious control, we are only human after all. However, feminism needs to focus on getting men to understand and stop those slights (which it is doing slowly) and less about internalising and co-opting those slights - as has happened with words like 'slut' and 'bitch'. It's a long process, but one I'm confident we're getting to grips with. Considering how we use language for both men and women is interesting, I've been very pleased to see the dropping away of Miss and Mrs and a tacit acceptance of Ms in many spheres.
