I am loathe to use the word triggered because I don't like it, but I had a very similar experience during my career. Often with kids on the fringe of going into the care system they aren't in enough direct danger to warrant being helped by the state. However you know they need some degree of help and as a worker you know the help will likely never come and you cannot take them home. If you ever get that question, and I did, that shit stays with you for life.
