I believe it's perfectly possible to be on nobody's side in particular - I am still anti-monarchy. I've made that point to MLS many times and it permeates most of my writing about the monarchy. I am anti-monarchy because of its systemic racist and its problematic history. I am absolutely baffled whenever non-white folks are so pro-monarchy. I was labelled a racist for pointing out that Meghan Markle marrying into the firm wasn't the win for progressivism it seemed and would end badly. It subsequently did. I then became racist for not picking a side between individuals.
Meghan has been treated badly by the press that's certainly true - but she and her husband are also intensely hypocritical in their combined desire for privacy and a Netflix deal. As I've said before, watching the Markles and the Palace fighting each other to the death is a massive wet dream for a republican like me.
The problem with Suque and her particularly 'no punches pulled' approach to writing is simple. It's not balanced or nuanced. She picks a side based on the colour of someone's skin and starts throwing punches - if she's the voice of the 'anti-racism' movement then the anti-racism movement is in trouble. She's got some valid points, but she's just turned every moderate on Medium off with 'I'm glad a white woman got cancer because she's white' style article. It's morally vacuous, racially prejudiced and is easily used as evidence by racists and how inhuman non-white people can be and how the great replacement theory is right. She's giving the impression she's a voice for oppressed people, in reality she's doing more to enflame racial tensions than not. She's exactly what Neo-Nazis need - which is ideal, because she seems to show the same level of compassion to 'the other' - which in her case is 'white people'.
Medium readers deserve better. Those of us committed to ending racism may disagree about the methodology for getting there but we are generally a humane bunch. Minority groups need to consider carefully who they choose to endorse as a mouthpiece.
