I broadly agree. Think we have to be careful about pre-cancellation at the point of accusation rather than post legal - see Johnny Depp for more.
The other thing that makes this more complicated is that cancellation is a binary position whereas works of art by creatives are more often works of an entire team. Whether you collectively punish a team of people (500+) who made a film for the actions of one cog in that machine (an actor) is a decision that needs weighing up. You could kill a fledgling director’s career by association, limit box office tied payments to others with real world consequences.
None of this applies in R-Kelly’s case. He’s been convicted, he’s going to jail. He’s (mostly) a stand alone artist whose work can be cancelled with relatively little consequence to others and seems to be a huge piece of shit who deserves every second behind bars he gets. :o)
