I broadly agree with you - but I think it was a necessary correction by the legal system to counteract the public propensity for trial by social media. If you’re accused of heinous things by someone without much in the way of evidence to back up their claims, then the courtroom is the austere apotheosis of social media.
That’s a tough pill for a lot of people to swallow, and the horrible misogyny aimed at Heard demonstrates the public have learned nothing after the misandry that forced Depp out of work on the basis of the words of one woman. It’s a pendulum swinging between hordes of idiots. This firestorm was public because Depp wanted Heard tried in the court of public opinion the way he was… it was a firestorm, but she was the one holding matches back in 2016.
If we want to find the centre ground we have to build online compassion. We have to push people into the centre ground - call out misogyny and misandry in equal measure and not give way to polemic good/bad thinking at every juncture.
I read you because I often disagree with you. On this occasion I think you’re bang on. My take is here… https://medium.com/lucid-nightmare/the-final-penguin-verdict-on-the-johnny-depp-v-amber-heard-trial-c661852e5ae
