I couldn’t agree more. This is a problem. There should be only one thing that ensures curation and featuring on the Homepage. Quality. It shouldn’t be gender biased (Tom Kuegler and I recently had a discussion about this). It shouldn’t be politically biased — where are all the right wing opinion pieces? Who is curating difficult writing that might be offensive? And why, oh why, would you seek to curate only the homogenous views of a minority of writers in a small number of homegrown publications? This seems a guaranteed way to bring about your own extinction.

The beauty of Medium was that it was a place for genuine discussion, for intellectual rigour and to find interesting articles. Things that were being lost elsewhere online in the malaise of Western society tearing itself apart. I have found myself largely bored by the featured offerings recently.

It’s like going to a buffet table that used to be stocked with mountains of delicious unique homecooked food, to find that suddenly everything has been bulk bought and microwaved. Medium needs to decentralise the process, rely more on curating quality rather than guessing what they think will do well in the current Zeitgeist.

It’s time to step back and be truly liberal instead of faux liberal. Another great article (I suspect it wasn’t curated). Keep up the great writing :o)
