I couldn’t agree with you more. And you will find that many men in private are vocalising that to the women that they know — my girlfriend knows exactly what I think about abortion. But you’ll find less and less men prepared to come out and discuss what they think about it in the public arena.

And whilst you and I are broadly in agreement on these points — there are people who think abortion is a human rights issue for the opposite reason you do. That people dying unnecessarily should always concern other people. They just believe that unborn foetuses are the people that are dying unnecessarily. You and I can disagree with them for a whole host of reasons, but it doesn’t make their belief less valid or less true for them.

To make matters even more complicated, some of the people who think that are women. The whole abortion issue is a mine-field in which men will tread warily or not tread at all. This is particularly true in the current political climate when gender relations are strained.
