I definitely don't speak for the British people - and as a life long republican (in the British sense), I think Meghan Markle is probably the best thing that could've happened - because anything that demonstrates the antiquated system of monarchy is irrational, backward and prejudiced is fine by me.
However, I draw the line at having sympathy for any of them, including Meghan. There are no sides I want to take because all the sides are equally awful. She and Harry will play into the commercialisation and lucrative Hollywood deals that come from being private citizens with a tie to the monarchy. All the fun of Nepotism with none of the responsibility of civic service.
The longer it goes on, the more the British public will turn. You can't simultaneously ask for a private life then do interviews with Oprah. You can't tell everyone to be more green whilst you fly on private jets. She got the Corbyn treatment as you've said - but unlike Corbyn (who was at least a principled man) - she is partly responsibile. That has everything to do with her actions and nothing to do with her skin colour.
