I disagree. Identity politics places prescriptions on who your tribe are. It decides which facet of identity are important and prescribes arbitrary groupings on that basis. It encourages people to think of themselves as 'marginalised' and 'oppressed' by hightlighting and raising those aspects of a person's existence above all others. It is emotionally enriching to find your tribe - but you don't see tribes like 'new mothers' or 'cancer survivors' or 'hates children'. Identity politics promotes tribalism and is the cause of what keeps marginalised people at war with each other.

That's been the failing of the left wing - throwing itself whole heartedly into arguments about identity, rather than considering 'poverty' as the problem that can be addressed through political means.
