I don’t see why people can’t see the duality. I’m opposed to affirmative action on the grounds that it skews the system away from a meritocratic approach - I’m likewise opposed to Legacy placements.
There should be only one way to get into a university, you work hard and you get there. Applications should be double blind and based on an assessment application and exam.
The only time a university need consider the inherited characteristics of its students is when they show up on day one. Then they might need to consider their facilities and whether they match the demographic of their newest members.
Society needs to stop meddling to fix results it doesn’t like and undermining rigorous fairness get what it wants.
