I don't side with anyone - I have written about how complicated this conflict is in the past and been accused of taking a neutral stance. This is me back in 2021. https://medium.com/p/d866f7630b68
I have kicked back at those people who are overusing the word genocide. I don't think the preconditions for genocide have been met. I think Hamas would commit genocide if it had the means, but the point is moot. I think there are some elements with the hawkish wing of the Israeli society who might advocate for it - but the population wouldn't buy it.
That said, I do think there are likely to be war crimes committed by both sides. Hamas have filmed some of their war crimes which makes it very easy to hold people accountable - however, I do think the IDF are also skirting very close too - particularly when it comes to switching off water and electricity for the civilian population and the level of bombing relative to military gain. Much has been made of the bombing of hospitals and whether or not they are legitimate military targets (they might be) but that decision has to be made on firm concrete intelligence not on the balance of probabilities. Israel's approach to reprisals and the removal of Hamas needed to be contained and precise and it has not been and they are paying the price in reputation.
I suspect that was the Hamas plan from the outset and I have written about that here. https://medium.com/p/c1ba95f35093
