I don’t talk money because it’s not my main motivation for writing here…. It’s a side hustle and an enjoyable one. I can confirm though that there can be a huge gulf between a good month and a mediocre month. On a good month I may earn eight times what I get on a mediocre month.

What I can say is that after four years writing here is that all your residuals start to add up. So when you write an absolute banger, you have a bump on most of your other stories. The more stories you have in the back catalogue, the more of a bump it can be.

That’s how your mediocre months become more profitable and your amazing months occasionally cover your rent. It’s about persistence and enjoying the journey. That’s why I don’t focus on the money too much, the drop between the best months and the average months feels like failure, like holding your desire to write under the water until the bubbles stop.

It’s why I often sign off comments to newbie writers…. Keep on keeping on. :o)
