I don't think for a second he will be - and nor will there be zero repercussions for those who challenged him. The leadership contest following Johnson are already answering questions like 'why did it take you three years to stop defending him?' - the Conservative Party is a part of opportunists, Johnson is one of them, perhaps even the best at exploiting political rhetoric - the man has zero principles and is almost certainly a sociopath.

The reason I don't think he's going quietly is that in his resignation speech he never actually said the words 'i resign' and I think he'll spend the rest of the summer thinking about ways to subvert the leadership bid. He will position this as 'the people against parliament' - as he did with Brexit and I wouldn't be surprised to see him set himself up as an outside candidate.

The man is a highly intelligent sociopath hiding behind the disguise of buffoonery, and we take our eye off him at our peril.
