I don't think it's even the absence of positive masculine role models, I think we're in a period of history which often redefines neutral male behaviours as toxic. I think that's what I'm trying to get at - and I think there are enough male role models who have failed to offer any positive masculinity (or indeed toxic masculinity) for fear of 'being wrong'. I think many men are now confused about what 'being a man' actually involves and this is filtering down into younger generations as uncertainty - easily tossed aside by Tate et al.
