I don't think the people should come for you - and I hope they don't. Your work and my work are two sides of the same coin and reach different audiences in different ways.

One of the limitations on my work, and one of the main shortcomings is that I'm writing about complex issues from the point of view of a Brit. The American system has, and always will be, a different beast and I do think there is more a systemic problem that's far more deeply rooted over there. That isn't to say that UK is some sort of racial shangri-la where racism isn't a thing, but I certainly think we've made significant systemic in-roads since the 1990s and that's what the stats are telling us.

The problem with the concept of 'white privilege' I suspect, is that it's too nebulous and so it can be used in many different ways by individuals, with the concurrent 'white supremacist' being labelled at anyone who questions its application. It's not that white privilege doesn't exist, as you highlight instances very effectively in your articles, it's simply that it's not the only facet of what constitutes privilege in the modern age. The over insistence on it's application at all costs with a total disregard for other areas will lead to a kick back by white folks, particularly poor white folks if they're radicalised by the political right.

When polarisation occurs, as happened in the 1930s, it's very easy to demonise moderate liberals. They get kicked by the left and the right simultaneously for taking a centre ground position - the further the left moves into group centred identity politics rather than soft-liberal-socialism, the greater the kick from the right. When everyone has become polarised and stops talking, we have two diametrically opposed groups - both intolerant, both claiming the solution. The Right invariably sell the defensive nationalistic lie and the left will sell a utopia of tolerance that has to be enforced. In both cases BIPOC will be thrown under the bus.
