I don't think you can make the argument that 'women photographers are so rare' and then provide the stat that in a room of 100 photographers, 48 of them will be women. It's not quite 50/50 but it's hardly lashings of unequal employment.
And yes, more women are photographed than men - but that might be a result of market forces. You can see from this statistical analysis....
Women make up 55.3% of the fashion consumers, 57% of the clothing purchases, 55% of the footwear purchases and a whopping 68% of the accessories purchases. Perhaps the desire to have women in front of the camera (as well as behind it) is a result of a commercial market aimed primarily at women.
