I got to light a Hanukkah candle this year — just by virtue of being in the house at the right time. I think people likely just enjoy sharing their traditions and being inclusive — I then had the whole oil miracle explained to me before one of the daughters cut their Dad off to inform him I wasn’t interested (although I was) — it was a nice gesture, meaningless for me as a fairly militant atheist, but in a world comprised of the terminally unstable and polarised insane any act of kindness, whatever the motivation, should be cause for minor celebration.
