I have absolutely no doubt that she is telling the truth and her testimony is both powerful and compelling. My problem is not with her testimony but with the problematic way that testimony has been used on social media.

It wasn't that the law failed to take her case...... that would imply negligence on the part of the enforcement agency. The police looked at her evidence and applied the law. The statute of limitations was the law being applied correctly. However morally wrong that seems.

The correct course of action is to amend the law. That is a long process. One that is far more likely to be hampered by Social Media outrage than not. It takes time to make changes to legislation and protective measures, these things cannot be done in a kneejerk, reactive way off the back of populism. The legal ramifications of such decision making would cause chaos.

So, as I said... I have great sympathy with ERW and other victims of alleged abuse, and I will wholeheartedly condemn perpetrators when they are found guilty in a court of law, but I cannot and will not support seeking alternative justice outside of the legal framework. It's a dangerous road for a society to take. And it's not a valid or useful alternative to changing the law.

Thanks for your comment and continuing the discussion. :o)
