I haven't identified my race at all - you have inferred my race based on a statement. Your inference may or may not be correct but that's on you. The words 'identity politics' are not in and of themselves racist despite your assertion- because I also write 'identity politics' pieces about how the LGBTQ+ community and the tendency to put sexuality or sexual characteristics as the primary facet of identity is also flawed. That's entirely different from melanin levels and skin colour, so for that group I would be 'homophobic' or 'transphobic' rather than racist. I also write about 'identity politics' when talking about 'mental health' - for much the same reason I'd be accused of a lack of neurodivergent acceptance. Nothing to do with race at all. I don't like people taking a single part of their complex multi-faceted human-ness and trying to use that as the primary argument by which they negotiate and understand and interpret power dynamics.
For you, I suspect being Black is an important part of your identity, nothing wrong with that and I enjoy reading writing in that vein... I just don't think an over-focus on race is how you solve a problem like racism. I'd even go as far as to say that it makes the situation worse over the long run. Trying to solve a problem like racism by focussing on race is like trying to put out a fire with a flamethrower. Things feel like they're getting better inside the echo chambers and if you check the comments sections of such stories you'll find mountains of support and 'right on!' style comments but it doesn't translate to meaningful change in the real world. That is harder and cannot be done at gunpoint and must be done carefully and skilfully.
So, by all means presume discussion about 'identity politics' is racist, but I disagree and I think I've proved it. 'Identity politics' encompasses far more than skin colour. Power is gained by leveraging the 'victim' position and that's why the Black and Jewish communities are having so much trouble at the moment. It's the LGB are in trouble with T and it's why white straight folks are generally held to be bad..... even by people who have far more money and influence than they do on an economic and social level.
For what it's worth, I think good old fashioned economic socialism is the way to go, far more in line with MLK than Malcolm X. I think the break up of the left into niche identity groups is political suicide and, certainly here in the UK, has led to a far more insidious and racist country..... and I say that as someone living in a country with a newly minted non-white Prime Minister. Things are getting worse while everyone pretends they aren't.
So no, to reject your assertion. I don't think I'm racist. You're more than welcome to assume what age, sex, race, sexuality I am based on my writing but I'll certainly never do so - it's the least interesting thing about me. If you want to find out about me then you can read the 'Person Behind the Penguin' story pinned to my profile. You wear your identity on your sleeve, but you'll find there will be groups of people who won't listen to you because of it. Those are the people who might read me, but they won't find any racism here - they'll find a centre ground rationalism being painted as racism by niche interest groups. Penguins ain't racist. :o)
