I know it’ll be a controversial thing to write here…. But I didn’t enjoy Tolkien’s books. They’re too detailed for me - and I mean that in the best way. It’s what appeals to you and turns me off…. But what I do know about Tolkien’s works is that they will be very very hard to adapt well. I felt Jackson did a good job with LOTR, and it is perhaps because I watched the film before reading the books that I didn’t enjoy them as much.

Tolkien built an entire universe like a skilled architect - you cannot easily capture that on screen. All the most important details are not easily transferable into a new medium, particularly not at the moment when political positioning is steering the creativity bus.
