I left Twitter in 2018 and have zero intention of returning - from the Penguin perspective, its like watching a collection of idiots fight over control of a dumpster fire. We clashed on Musk before, so you know my views… I don’t think you make the world less racist by sending people to the naughty corner, eventually you get a naughty corner full of rage.

And here’s my second observation, whilst I think your methodology for achieving the end of racial prejudice is flawed, I don’t question your sincerity. I don’t question the sincerity of man race writers on this platform - just the methodology they employ to achieve their stated aims.

But I do question the sincerity of many progressives. They haven’t done the thinking. They have been radicalised into a movement where it is easy to agree and where the buy-in cost is painfully low. Many of them have the flags, have the stickers, tweet the mantras but have all the philosophical depth of a car park puddle.

These people have no interest in the long term progress of anti-racism, trans-rights, or anything at all really. They have a vested interest in being seen to be on the right side of history and getting on with their lives. In that way they’re no different from the German population in 1933. They can be guided wherever people want to take them, be that anti-racism rallies of pushing Jewish people into death camps.

So, I’m not surprised there’s a Twexodus (great name) because everyone has been telling them that Elon Musk is the embodiment of evil for the last six months. The walls of the echo chamber might be coming down and many of them are so psychologically fragile that the act of hearing a single dissenting voice is a threat to their being and creates huge anxiety. I know that because I’m the most blocked bird on Medium, never blocked for being aggressive or rude, simply for saying ‘I think you’re wrong’.

Real progressives have difficult conversations. Real liberals believe in liberalism. The army of progressives formed on Twatter was a paper one. Non-liberal faux liberals prepared to police echo chambers and those looking for a dopamine pat for showing up and doing the bare minimum. You’re better off without them.
