I like this approach. I see socialism less as a redistribution of wealth into the hands of private citizens and more about setting up better systems to help those citizens do what they want to do free from interference. Whilst I get the 'it doesn't matter as long as you don't interfere with my life' principle, I think there's scope for events that integrate people more fully - not just so they aren't a threat to each other, but they have a joint identity which supersedes melanin as the most important facet of existence. Dance companies tend to do this very well - as do most theatres, but such things aren't brilliantly funded outside of the metropolitan elite areas.

I think your last sentence is particularly true and there's an argument to not talk racism at all - because as a facet of identity it is no more or less important than anything else.
