I meant ask me more generally - or have a discussion about it. Considering it's pretty much all the middle class white folks around my neck of the woods can talk about - you'd think some of those discussions might filter through and become a point of interest.

The argument is basically this. You wanna help BIPOC people, you have to help poor people. The only way poor people are going to vote in large enough number is if they can hear a type of politics that appeals to them. So far, the voices that appeal to them have been predominantly on the demagogic right.

I wouldn't expect anyone to ask - but I would expect it to come up. I'd expect it to be used as a weapon.... 'Are you just giving her extra food because she's white and that volunteer is white?'. I'd expect to hear questions like 'Shouldn't you feed the British people first?' I'd expect to hear a lot more disdainful racism when we cook curry (some of our cooks are Indian). By and large people are just grateful to have food and to know that other people care.

I would expect 'race' to be a contentious issue at the homeless shelter - and it isn't. It's a contentious issue on university campuses, and on social media, and between writers on Medium - but it isn't filtering down at all. That's why it supports my argument and that's why it has to do with *everything*
